Sinokrot’s Speciality Micronutrient-Fortified Food
Reducing the Risk of Malnourishment Through Micronutrient Fortification
World Health Report identified iodine, iron, vitamin A and zinc deficiencies as being among the world’s most serious health risk factors. In addition to the more obvious clinical manifestations, micronutrient malnutrition is responsible for a wide range of non-specific physiological impairments, leading to reduced resistance to infections, metabolic disorders, and delayed or impaired physical and psychomotor development.
A Socio-Economic and Food Security Survey, carried out jointly in the West Bank and Gaza by the World Food Program, Food and Agriculture Organozation, and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistcs, indicates that 1 in 10 Palestinian children is affected by malnutrition.
It further estimates that food insecurity stands at 33% of the total population in these areas, with a distribution of 57% in Gaza and 19% in the West Bank. In other words, this survey asserts that 1.6 million people in Palestine are classed as food insecure.1 Furthermore, a 2016 Food Fortification Initiative in Palestine points out that 15.5% of total Palestinians risk inadequate levels of Zinc intake.2
As a result of this, SFC has taken on the commitment to address micronutrient deficiencies in Palestine through the fortification of affordable and nutritious foods. SFC’s logo and brands are well-known for helping create a healthy future for Palestinian children.
